Uganda National Senior Team (the Cranes) captain Khalid Aucho is close to signing a new contract with African giants and Tanzania Premier League champions Young Africans SC, sources at The Nerve Africa have exclusively learned.
The 31-year-old will sign a one-year contract with the continental powerhouse, with an option for an additional season. The deal will include improved terms regarding monthly wages.
A source close to his representatives, ACFA, has confirmed the development, noting that negotiations between the player and the club concluded positively and that he is expected to sign the new deal before the international break.
“It was only a matter of time, as he [Aucho] is considered a big part of the Young Africans project. There’s no doubt he will put pen to paper before they break for the November international window. With the new deal, fresh terms and better wages have been agreed upon,” the source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
The robust defensive midfielder, with a Transfermarkt valuation estimated at €125,000, has been with Young Africans since the 2021/22 season, helping them secure two Tanzania Premier League championships and three FA Cups. He has played 133 matches for the club across all competitions.
Previously, Aucho played for Egyptian side El-Makasa and Indian club East Bengal. He also previously featured for Serbian club Red Star Belgrade, South Africa’s Baroka FC, and Uganda Premier League side Kirinya Jinja SS (now Busoga United).
At the international level, Aucho, who debuted for the Uganda Cranes in 2013, remains one of the national team’s most capped players with 72 competitive appearances and two goals. He is currently captaining the team in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification campaign.
