In a bid to find a suitable replacement for their injured midfielder Damian Rasak, Polish top-flight side Gornik Zabrze is set to unveil Tanzanian international Himid Mao Mkami, sources have exclusively learned from The Nerve Africa.
Rasak is expected to be sidelined for over 10 months, ruling him out for the remainder of the season. As a result, Gornik Zabrze head coach Jan Urban has recommended the loan signing of Himid Mao, who currently plays for Egyptian top-tier side Talaea El Gaish.
Gornik Zabrze and the playerโs agency, SSG, have reached an agreement with Talaea El Gaish. Mao will move to Poland until the end of the 2024/25 campaign, with Zabrze covering his salary throughout the loan period, a source at SSG disclosed to The Nerve Africa.
โThe agreement is in place for a season-long loan with Gornik Zabrze, and the player will sign the necessary papers after the international break. Gornik is in desperate need of numbers in their midfield, so Himid (Mao Mkami) will immediately integrate into the team,โ the source added.
It should be noted that Himid Maoโs current contract with Talaea El Gaish runs until 2026. During the 2023/24 season, he made 23 appearances across both the Premier League and the Egyptian League Cup.
Previously, Himid Mao, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at โฌ300,000, played for Ghazl El Mahalla, El Entag El-Harby, ENPPI, and Project Sports Club in Egypt, making over 160 appearances across all four teams.
For the Tanzanian national senior team, the Taifa Stars, the 31-year-old has made an impressive 61 appearances since making his debut in 2014. He is currently part of the squad in camp for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
