After being without a club for nearly three months, Ugandan international Gavin Kizito Mugweri is set to return to Egypt, this time with Premier League outfit El Gouna, The Nerve Africa have exclusively learned.
The versatile defender is a free agent after falling out with his former club SC Villa in the Uganda Premier League. The right-back, who can also play as a central defender, was accused of indiscipline by the club, leading to the termination of his contract.
However, his representatives, Prosper Sports Agency, have nearly secured his next move, with all parties having reached a verbal agreement. El Gouna has offered the 22-year-old a three-year contract, with the signing expected to take place later this week in Egypt.
βGavin is a humble boy, and the allegations of indiscipline were completely false. Otherwise, he wouldnβt be attracting interest from big teams like El Gouna. The club reached out, and we have an agreement in principle that should be signed before the end of the week. It will definitely be for three years in Egypt,β a source at Prosper Sports Agency told The Nerve Africa.
Should he complete the deal, Kizito will be returning to a league and country he knows well, having previously played for Al Ittihad Alexandria during the 2022/23 campaign. That season, he made only three league appearances.
Meanwhile, last season at Villa, Kizito, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at β¬50,000, made 25 appearances in the Uganda Premier League and three in the Uganda Cup. He was also a league champion with the club under head coach Dusan Stojanovic.
At the national level, Kizito has progressed through various youth ranks all the way to the senior team. He played for the U-15, U-17, and U-20 teams as captain before earning promotion to the Uganda Cranes in 2021. Since then, he has earned 10 competitive caps.
