Ugandan midfield prodigy Travis Mutyaba will leave Egyptian and African powerhouse Zamalek SC after just six months with the team to pursue his dream of moving to Europe, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
Despite signing a four-and-a-half-year contract when he joined in February this year, the 19-year-old will depart from the White Knights at the end of the 2023/24 Egyptian Premier League season. This decision comes after the club and the player mutually agreed to terminate the contract.
In an exclusive interview, Dennis Namanya, CEO of Prosper Sports Agency, which represents Mutyaba, confirmed the surprising development. He asserted that they are already in the process of securing a better deal in Europe.
βYes, it’s true we decided to terminate the contract. We are looking for a better deal and development opportunities for the boy. A move to Europe would better suit his much-needed growth,β, Prosper Sports Agency CEO Namanya told The Nerve Africa.
Mutyaba, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at β¬100,000, will leave Zamalek after making 11 appearances in the Egyptian Premier League and the CAF Confederation Cup. He played a key role in helping them win the latter championship, as they defeated Tunisia’s RSB Berkane.
The left-footed versatile midfielder has previously featured for record Uganda Premier League holders SC Villa, the Vipers Junior Team, Synergy in the Futsal competition, Bulemeezi in the Buganda Masaza Cup, as well as Gombe High School.
On the international stage, Mutyaba has progressed through various national team ranks, playing at the U15, U17, and U20 levels, and for the senior team, the Uganda Cranes. Since debuting for the Cranes in 2021, he has played in 19 competitive games, scoring twice and providing six assists.
