Less than a week after exiting Croatian outfit Slaven Belupo Koprivnica, Ugandan international Abdu Lumala has attracted interest from Swedish top-flight side Halmstads, sources from The Nerve Africa have exclusively learned.
Lumala, whose market value according to Transfermarkt has dropped to β¬50,000, was deemed surplus and subsequently released by Slaven Belupo after just three months. During his time there, he played four games but did not complete 90 minutes in any of them.
However, the 26-year-old is now set for a return to Sweden, where he played during the earlier stages of his career. A member of his family, who wished to remain anonymous, disclosed that they have been in contact with Halmstads in recent days and have held positive discussions.
βBehind the scenes, we’re working to get Abdu (Lumala) back to his best. We have to find him a suitable environment, and for two days now, Halmstads has shown they could be the right home. It’s progressing well, but let’s see what the next few days will bring,βΒ the family member told The Nerve Africa.
Before his spell at Slaven Belupo, Lumala spent one and a half seasons in the Uganda Premier League with Vipers SC, where he won both the Uganda Premier League and the Uganda Cup in the 2022/23 campaign.
Previously, he featured for Swedish sides MjΓ€llby AIF, Kalmar FF, Varbergs BoIS, Helsingborgs IF, IFK VΓ€rnamo, and Syrianska FC. He also had a rather unsuccessful stint with Egyptian Premier League outfit Pyramids FC.
For the Uganda national senior team, the Cranes, Lumala, who made his debut at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, has earned 14 caps, scoring twice and providing four assists.
