Kenyan international Brian Mandela Onyango according to The Nerve Africa is facing uncertainty about his career future, as his contract with South African powerhouse Mamelodi Sundowns is set to expire on June 30.
Having spent the past three seasons with the Premier Soccer League (PSL) champions, Mandela will leave the club as there have been no talks of a contract renewal. With just two weeks remaining on his current deal, the defender finds himself in a state of limbo.
Meanwhile, a family member of Mandela has expressed disappointment with the way Mamelodi Sundowns have handled the player’s situation.Β
βIt’s such a disgrace when a club of that caliber chooses to stay silent with their players. Brian (Mandela) has been disrespected from the day he joined; there is no way back,β the source revealed to The Nerve Africa.
Recent reports have linked the experienced defender to a move to Danish second-tier side AC Horsens. However, these reports are far from concrete, with the family member remaining tight-lipped when pressed on Mandela’s next destination.
Over the three seasons at Mamelodi Sundowns, Mandela, whose Transfermarkt value is estimated at β¬250,000, made 61 appearances in all competitions, with nine of those coming in the just-concluded campaign. Last season, he appeared in just three PSL games, two CAF Champions League matches, a single African Football League game, and three domestic cup games.
Previously, he featured for Maritzburg United and Engen Santos in South Africa, enjoying five and three seasons, respectively. However, it was at Mamelodi Sundowns where he enjoyed the most success in terms of silverware, winning three PSL titles, a Nedbank Cup, and the African Football League trophy.
Mandela is one of the most experienced players on the Kenyan national team, the Harambee Stars. Since debuting in 2017, he has amassed 36 caps, playing in several Africa Cup of Nations and World Cup qualification matches.
