Uncertainty has engulfed forward Uche Ikpeazu Mubiru and his future with the newly inducted English League Two side Port Vale FC, reliable sources have told The Nerve Africa.
There is growing frustration among Ikpeazu’s family and representatives as the club is reluctant to renew his contract ahead of the 2024/2025 season. His current stint with The Valiants will end on June 30.
Talks that began in March have stalled, and with Port Vale focusing on a massive rebuild after their relegation to League Two, it is highly unlikely Ikpeazu will stay. The uncertainties surrounding manager Darren Moore’s future have not helped the situation either.
A member of the player’s family in Kampala remained tight-lipped when pressed about what the future holds for the pacy and powerful 6ft 3in striker.
Recent reports have linked the 29-year-old to a move to Charlton Athletic FC in the English Football League One. These have reignited the January talks that fell through on the final day of the mid-season transfer window.
Meanwhile, Ikpeazu made 20 League One appearances for Port Vale in the recently concluded season, scoring just once. He also played one, two, and three matches in the EFL Trophy, EFL Cup, and FA Cup, respectively.
Ikpeazu has previously featured for Konyaspor in Turkey, Cardiff, Middlesbrough, Wycombe, and Hearts of Midlothian in Scotland. He has also had spells at Cambridge United, Blackpool, and Doncaster Rovers.
The forward, who also holds Nigerian descent, has previously received Uganda national team summons, albeit without making a single international appearance.
