Versatile Uganda Cranes defender Elvis Okello Bwomono is poised to extend his tenure with Scottish Premier League team St. Mirren beyond the 2023/24 season, according to The Nerve Africa sources.Β
The Saints, who signed Bwomono until the end of the current season in January, included an option for a contract extension, contingent upon his satisfactory performance.
Since his debut on January 3, 2024, against Scottish Premier League powerhouse Celtic, Bwomono has accumulated 12 appearances for St Mirren.Β
A family member, who also works for his representatives at Unique Sports Group, revealed to The Nerve Africa that an extension is highly likely.Β
“Elvis has earned the contract extension. He’s a popular figure in the dressing room and Stephen Robinson, the head coach, is impressed,” the source said. “Elvis is pleased with his performances and the treatment he has received has been excellent, so, yes, we hope the club can finalize the deal soon.”
Bwomono transferred to St. Mirren from Icelandic club ΓBV Vestmannaeyjar in December 2023, after a tenure starting in May 2022 during which he played 48 times. The 25-year-old began his professional career at Southend United in England, amassing 132 appearances from 2017 to 2021.
Currently, Transfermarkt values Bwomono at β¬75,000. For Uganda, Bwomono has participated in eight competitive matches since his debut in 2021 and has recently become a regular starter for the national team.
He played the full 90 minutes in each of Ugandaβs recent international friendlies against Comoros and Ghana, which ended in a 4-0 loss and a 2-2 draw, respectively.
