ACF Fiorentina continues its battle for a top-five position in Serie A during the 2023/2024 season, with Ghanaian Alfred Duncan playing a crucial role. Despite his significant impact, Duncan’s transfer value has been on a decline, and the Florentine club shows no haste in offering a new contract to the midfielder.

Career Salary Comparison
Duncan’s salary more than doubled after his first loan agreement with US Livorno 1915. It saw another significant increase upon transferring to US Sassuolo Calcio from UC Sampdoria, nearly doubling again. Over five years with the Italian team, Duncan’s salary changed three times: after signing a permanent contract, then in the 2017/2018 and 2018/2019 seasons. The last increase occurred after moving to Florence, where his salary nearly doubled, reaching the highest point in his career.

Market Value
In the 2011/2012 season, Duncan’s performance with Inter Milan’s youth team led to more than a fivefold increase in his transfer value. A move to US Livorno 1915 for game time, resulting in promotion to the elite division, saw his transfer sum increase by more than six times. A full transfer to UC Sampdoria recovered a slight value dip, so before the loan to US Sassuolo Calcio, Duncan’s market value rose by a million euros.
Two successful seasons with the Italian team again increased his transfer sum, this time by more than 1.5 times. However, a subsequent loan and his place in the Fiorentina starting lineup did not stop a decline in market value, which has decreased by more than threefold over three years. Currently, Transfermarkt values Duncan at €4.5 million.

Achievements with the National Team
Duncan debuted for the senior Ghanaian national team in the autumn of 2012 and played in the U20 World Cup the following summer, reaching the semi-finals before losing to future champions France. The Ghanaian team won the bronze medal after defeating Iraq. However, Duncan’s accomplishments with the senior national team are modest, with only eight matches played over five years and no appearances in major tournaments. He officially retired from the national team in 2017.
Football and Financial Prospects
In the 2023/2024 season, Duncan remains a key player for the team, having scored against US Lecce and provided three assists. If he helps ACF Fiorentina reach the Conference League final this season and qualify for European competitions next year, there’s a chance the club will extend his contract for several more years.
