Ghanaian giants Hearts of Oak are reportedly courting Asante Kotoko’s star forward Stephen Mukwala, as contract renewal talks with his current club have stalled, according to Ghana Soccernet.
The 24-year-old Ugandan striker, who joined Kotoko on a free transfer in August 2022, has impressed in the league this season, notching eight goals and an assist in 17 games.
With Mukwala’s contract due to expire at the season’s end, and a potential salary hike from €1,800 to €3,500 per month on the cards, Kotoko seems unable to fulfill the new financial terms embedded in the renewal clause. The club has suggested Mukwala trigger the clause to facilitate a transfer, yet the player seems reluctant to agree, leaving room for Hearts of Oak to make their move.
According to Transfermarkt the player’s current market value estimates at €175,000. Negotiations between the Accra-based outfit and Mukwala’s camp are said to be underway and are moving forward with a positive momentum. To add to the intrigue, it’s rumored an Algerian club has also shown interest in the Ugandan international, signaling Mukwala’s strong appeal in the transfer market.
As the transfer drama heats up, fans and pundits alike are eager to see if Hearts of Oak will manage to snatch the talented striker from their archrivals, potentially bolstering their front line for the rest of the Ghana Premier League season.
