In a significant move to bolster their squad, the LA Galaxy have signed the Ghanaian winger Joseph Paintsil from Belgian Pro League side Genk, as per Ghana Soccernet.
The 26-year-old Ghanaian international has inked a contract with the Galaxy through the 2027 MLS season, joining Gabriel Pec and Riqui Puig as the club’s designated stars.
The announcement comes on the heels of reports indicating a substantial investment by the Galaxy, with Paintsil’s transfer fee rumored to be nearly €8,3 million ($9 million). This latest acquisition underscores the club’s commitment to top-end roster spending this winter, following the reported €9,2 million ($10 million) transfer fee plus incentives paid for Gabriel Pec from Brazilian Série A side Vasco da Gama.
Paintsil arrives at LA Galaxy with an impressive resume, boasting 61 goals and 35 assists from 228 appearances in European competitions. His standout performances for Genk in the 2022-23 season, where he contributed to 32 goals in 39 appearances, further highlight his potential impact on the team.
LA Galaxy’s General Manager, Will Kuntz, has unveiled ambitious plans for the club’s future, centered around their latest signing, Joseph Paintsil. The Ghanaian forward joins the Galaxy on a four-year contract from Belgium’s Genk, with the club eyeing him as a linchpin in their quest for titles.
“Joseph has been a pivotal player for one of Belgium’s top clubs and a standout performer for Ghana,” remarked Kuntz. “We are thrilled to welcome him to the LA Galaxy family. His dynamism and skill will significantly bolster our attacking options and elevate our pursuit of trophies.”
