Kenya’s Kakamega Homeboyz is on the verge of bolstering its defensive lineup with the imminent signing of Ugandan left-back Shafik Batambuze, according to Swift sports.Β
Currently unattached after a stint with Tanzania Premier League’s Singida Big Stars, Batambuze has been training with Homeboyz and is set to finalize his transfer before the closure of the Kenyan transfer window this Thursday.
The addition of the lanky defender is expected to intensify competition in the team’s defensive ranks, particularly challenging compatriot Farouk Musisi, who has been a regular starter for Homeboyz on the left flank.
Batambuze brings a wealth of experience to the Kenyan Premier League, having previously featured for prominent clubs like Gor Mahia, Tusker FC, Sofapaka, Western Stima, and Muhoroni Youth. His career spans across various leagues, including stints with Simba FC and SC Villa in Uganda, as well as Zambia’s Kabwe Warriors and the now-defunct Singida United in Tanzania.
With three caps for the Ugandan national team, Batambuze adds international pedigree to Homeboyz. He was part of the Ugandan squad that contested the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon.
Joining fellow countrymen Farouk Musisi, goalkeeper Cleo James Ssetuba, and striker Davis Kasirye at Kakamega Homeboyz, Batambuze aims to contribute to the team’s ambitions for the ongoing season.
