Zambian youngster Joseph Banda is on the verge of signing a professional contract with Swiss top-flight club FC Zurich, according to ZamFoot.
Banda, 17, who currently plays for Zambia’s U-20 National Team, previously took part in FC Zurich’s trials in May earlier this year. However, due to age restrictions, the young talent was unable to finalize a professional contract at that time.Β
Instead, Banda returned to Zambia and embarked on a short-term loan spell with Nkwazi FC from Red Arrows. Now, with his 18th birthday on the horizon on December 17th, several sources close to the situation reveal that Banda is set to return to Zurich and officially ink a professional contract with FC Zurich.
The promising striker caught the attention of FC Zurich during the trials, showcasing his skills and goal-scoring prowess. Despite being unable to sign a contract initially, the club maintained interest in Banda, eagerly awaiting his eligibility to secure his services.
This isn’t the first time Joseph Banda has attracted international attention. In the past, he had the opportunity to attend trials with Barcelona FC in Spain, a testament to his remarkable performance at the 2022 COSAFA U-20 tournament where he emerged as the top scorer.
While the FC Barcelona trial did not result in a deal, Banda’s consistent excellence has kept him in the spotlight, and FC Zurich’s interest marks another exciting chapter in the young player’s promising career.Β
The move to a top-flight European club could open new doors for Joseph Banda and further enhance Zambia’s reputation as a breeding ground for football talent. Football enthusiasts eagerly await official confirmation of the deal as the Zambian forward prepares to take the next step in his football journey.
