Highly-rated youngster Abasi Kyeyune has all but completed a switch to Egyptian Premier League outfit Cleopatra Ceramica from Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
The U-20 Ugandan starlet has signed a long-term, four-year employment contract with the Egyptians, pending an official announcement. His management confirmed to The Nerve Africa that his spell with the North Africans will commence at the start of the 2024/25 campaign.
“It’s a done deal. Papers have been signed, and Kyeyune will be announced by the club. We were in Egypt over the weekend, and it’s done. Cleopatra Ceramica will unveil him after the end of this season.”
Kyeyune caught the eye of a number of clubs on the continent after his superb show at the 2024 All-Africa Games in Ghana, where he scored twice and assisted five times in four games for the Uganda U-20 team. Uganda clinched silver, with Ghana taking the winner’s medal.
The 19-year-old spent last season with Villa, playing 21 Uganda Premier League matches, scoring one goal and assisting on five occasions. He also previously played for UPDF FC in the 2022/23 campaign, featuring in 19 league matches.
Dubbed one of the finest uprising attacking midfielders in Uganda, Kyeyune has represented the country at various youth levels, including the U15, U17, and U20 teams. He, however, is yet to make a national senior team appearance.
