French outfit AS Saint-Étienne have seen their attempt to lure Ghanaian midfielder Emmanuel Agyemang to Ligue 2 fall short, after Wolfsberger AC swiftly dismissed their opening €1 million bid, as per Footy-Africa.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a rising star in Austrian football following an impressive campaign with Wolfsberger, where he notched three goals and six assists in his debut top-flight season. Those performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with Saint-Étienne among a number of European clubs tracking his development.
Despite finally tabling a formal offer this week, the French side were rebuffed, with Wolfsberger reportedly placing a €3 million valuation on the midfielder. The Austrian club is also keen to secure Agyemang’s future and has initiated talks to extend his current deal, which already runs until 2026.
“They came in with an official proposal on Friday, but Wolfsberger didn’t even entertain it. The club believes he’s worth a lot more and are pushing to extend his stay by another four years,” a source close to the situation told Footy-Africa.
Agyemang, a graduate of Ghana’s prestigious WAFA academy, is seen as one of the Black Stars’ most promising midfielders, despite not yet earning a senior international cap. According to Transfermarkt, his market value stands at €2 million.
While Saint-Étienne may return with a revised offer, Wolfsberger’s stance suggests they are determined not to let go of one of their prized assets on the cheap—especially with other clubs also showing interest across Europe.
