Ugandan midfielder Taddeo Lwanga is on the verge of making a sensational return to Vipers SC as the Uganda Premier League champions gear up for the 2025/26 CAF Champions League, as per Footy Africa.
Lwanga, 31, will become a free agent on June 30 following the expiration of his contract with Rwandan side APR FC. Talks between the player and APR broke down over contractual disagreements, paving the way for a potential move back to his former club.
According to Footy Africa sources, Vipers have tabled a two-year deal for the experienced midfielder. Lwanga is reportedly pushing for a shorter, one-year agreement. Negotiations are ongoing, with both sides optimistic a deal will be struck soon.
Lwanga previously played for Vipers between 2017 and 2019, captaining the club to the 2017/18 league title. Since then, he has featured for clubs across Africa including Simba SC (Tanzania), Tanta SC (Egypt), and Arta/Solar7 (Djibouti).
On the international stage, Lwanga has been a key figure for the Uganda Cranes, earning 26 caps and playing a vital role in their successful qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
