The United States-based Oregon State Beavers Football Club is on the verge of securing the services of Ugandan right-back Joseph Ogwang from Uganda Premier League side KCCA FC, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
Ogwang, a graduate of the KCCA Soccer Academy, had three years remaining on his contract after signing his first-ever senior deal at the start of last season. However, the club has allowed him to pursue his first move abroad.
The 13-time Uganda Premier League champions have reached an agreement with Oregon State for the transfer of the 20-year-old defender, who can also play as a central defender.
A source at KCCA confirmed to The Nerve Africa that Ogwang will represent the American team while also pursuing higher education at Oregon State University. It has been revealed that he will travel to the US in the coming week to finalize the deal.
βItβs true thereβs an agreement between KCCA and Oregon State, which will allow Ogwang to handle his education at the state university. This is an excellent platform for him to showcase his ability and potentially secure even bigger deals in the US or Europe.β
It should be recalled that Ogwang joined the KCCA Academy in 2019. Unfortunately, he was unable to complete his first season in the FUFA Juniors League due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He was then part of the KCCA U20 side that won the Cambiasso and Rainbow International U20 tournament in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania.
Ogwang has represented Uganda at the youth level, playing for both the Under-17 and Under-20 national teams. With the latter, he has made five appearances, scoring one goal and providing three assists.
