The versatile midfielder Carl James Mujaguzi is moments away from signing a contract extension with Republic of Ireland outfit Athlone Town AFC, according to reliable sources speaking to The Nerve Africa.Β
Mujaguzi will sign an extended one-year contract with John Hayden’s coached side after impressing in his maiden season. His current contract is set to expire on November 30th of this year.
“Carl has given everything, and will surely stay at Athlone; talks are ongoing,” a member of Mujaguzi’s family based in Kampala exclusively disclosed to The Nerve Africa.
The 24-year-old joined Athlone at the start of the current campaign, making 14 appearances in the Republic of Ireland Division One and starting in all the past eight league games.Β
He has only missed one game this season and has chipped in with a goal as well. Athlone sits third on the ten-table, having accumulated 25 points in 15 matches played so far.
Meanwhile, Mujaguzi has previously featured for Olympic for two seasons. He also played for IFK Malmo in the Swedish Division One in 2022 on loan from the former. He has yet to be capped by the Uganda national senior team. However, he received his maiden summons in March of this year, as the Cranes lost 0:4 to Comoros before drawing 2:2 with Ghana in the FIFA-sanctioned international friendlies.
