The search for a new home has neared an end for Ugandan defender Bevis Kristofer Kizito Mugabi, following positive talks with Cyprus First Division outfit Anorthosis Famagusta FC, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
The 29-year-old, whose TransferMarket valuation is estimated at €350,000, is currently a free agent after being released at the end of the 2023/24 season by Scottish Premier League side Motherwell FC. He could, however, get back to business, this time in Cyprus.
A trusted source at his agency, General Sports Worldwide, has disclosed that the player has agreed to personal terms with Anorthosis and that he’ll put pen to paper on a two-year employment contract, should he pass his medical tests.
“Bevis will start a new chapter at Anorthosis for the next two years after medicals and a work permit. He has nothing to prove at this point after massive individual success in Scotland. He’ll keep growing, and he can get even better for bigger deals in the near future.”
Mugabi exited Motherwell after a decent campaign, where he played 32 Scottish Premier League matches. He also added six domestic cup appearances. This tally was 25 more than he had played in the entirety of the 2022/23 season.
Meanwhile, he has previously featured for English teams Yeovil Town in the EFL League Two and the Southampton U21 team. A move to Cyprus will see him play outside Great Britain for the first time in his club career.
With the Uganda national senior team, the Cranes, he has managed 20 international caps since debuting in 2017. He captained the team in the March 2024 international friendly matches against Comoros and Ghana. However, he pulled out of the June World Cup qualifiers to settle his future.
