In the search for senior team football, Uganda Cranes goalkeeper Giosue Bellagambi will leave English Championship side Huddersfield Town at the end of the season, according to The Nerve Africa sources, close to the player.
Bellagambi’s contract with Huddersfield is set to expire on June 30, after which he will seek a new team that can offer regular first-team football.
Sources close to the player suggest that a contract extension with The Terriers is highly unlikely, as the talented goalkeeper feels ready for first-team play—a guarantee that head coach Andre Breitenreiter has failed to make.
Aged 22, Bellagambi has spent the entire campaign in Huddersfield’s B Team, without making a single appearance in the Senior Team. Breitenreiter has preferred goalkeepers Lee Nicholls and Christopher Maxwell instead.
Since signing his first professional contract in 2022, Huddersfield has loaned Bellagambi out twice, first to Spennymoor in the English National League North and most recently to English League Two side Salford City FC.
There are unconfirmed reports that Bellagambi might return to Salford, potentially on a permanent deal. According to Transfermarkt his current market value estimates at €50,000.
Salford is owned by the ‘Class of 92’, a group of former Manchester United academy graduates-turned-legends: Gary Neville, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, and Phil Neville.
Meanwhile, Bellagambi has earned one international cap with the Uganda Cranes, which came during a 1-0 friendly defeat to Tanzania in 2022. In March of this year, he was a substitute in both matches as Uganda lost 4-0 to Comoros and drew 2-2 with Ghana.
Last month, Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Joseph Put expressed confidence in Bellagambi’s potential and ability to lead the national team for a long time.
