Alexander Quaye, the agent of Ghanaian defender Theophilus Asiedu, expects Basel’s new signing to make great strides in the near future.
The 20-year-old joined the Swiss side from Berekum Chelsea, signing an initial deal until 2026 with an option to extend. Asiedu completed his trial in early 2024, but complications delayed his move, his agent revealed to The Nerve Africa.
“He went there last year, passed the trial, but then they discovered he had torn his ACL, medial ligaments, and meniscus. He underwent surgery and rehab over the past year, and once he recovered, they signed him,” Quaye said.
Quaye believes Asiedu will need some time to adapt to the style of play in Europe but is confident the defender will make significant progress.
“He’s a young player who will need time to adjust to the tempo of the game in Europe. He’ll have some inconsistencies because of his age, but I expect him to make great progress over the next 18 months. I’m looking forward to seeing one of the best left-footed players Ghana has ever produced,” he added.
The left-footed centre-back has represented Ghana at both U17 and U20 levels.
