Ugandan international and SC Villa midfielder Ronald Ssekiganda has emerged as a prime January transfer target for Czech Republic National Football League outfit FK Viktoria Žižkov, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
Žižkov reportedly contacted Ssekiganda through his agency, Prosper Sports Agency, over the weekend to inquire about his contract status. The player, who led SC Villa to clinch the 2023/24 Uganda Premier League title, has six months remaining on his contract. However, the Czech side is eager to capitalize on the situation, as SC Villa would prefer not to lose him for free when his contract expires in June 2025.
Sources at Prosper Sports Agency disclosed that Žižkov has tabled a three-year contract offer for the 21-year-old. The club plans to initially loan him to Spanish side Leganés B for the remainder of the season to further his development, should they secure his signature.
“Viktoria Žižkov representatives were in the country on Saturday and held talks with senior officials at Prosper Sports Agency regarding Ssekiganda. They are ready to sign him for three years, with the initial six months at Leganés B on loan. This approach aligns with Žižkov’s past dealings with Ugandan players. Their relationship with Prosper and several Ugandan clubs is excellent, but SC Villa is expected to demand substantial compensation,” a source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
Ssekiganda, widely regarded as one of the best players in the Ugandan league, has featured in 10 matches this season for SC Villa, scoring one goal and providing three assists. At the start of the campaign, he was also appointed captain of the Uganda Premier League defending and record champions.
Last season, Ssekiganda scored three goals and registered six assists in 26 appearances, playing a pivotal role in helping SC Villa secure their 17th league title. In the preceding two seasons (2021/22 and 2022/23), he made 24 league appearances, contributing four goals.
At the international level, Ssekiganda made his debut for the Uganda national senior team, the Cranes, in January this year. Since then, he has earned eight competitive caps, scoring once and providing one assist.
