Following a failed move in the summer, Everton have reignited their pursuit of Ghanaian international Ernest Nuamah Appiah, with intentions to lure him from French side Olympique Lyon in the January transfer window.
Nuamah and Everton were involved in a transfer saga last summer. The 21-year-old had agreed terms to move to Goodison Park, but a sudden twist saw Fulham jump in with a €20m offer. Despite this, a late change of heart led the player to remain at Lyon.
However, Everton are now reportedly back for the talented winger, preparing to table an €18m offer. In an exclusive interview with The Nerve Africa, Nuamah’s compatriot Nana Akwasi Asare described the potential transfer as “a win-win for all parties involved.”
“With Lyon’s current financial struggles, they could benefit from the money from Nuamah’s sale to Everton—if the player is interested in Everton’s project under David Moyes,” said Asare, who previously played for Feyenoord and Gent.
“A new environment could inspire Nuamah to rediscover his best football, something we haven’t seen during his time at Lyon. If he moves to Everton, a club that has pursued him for months, it could be a perfect fit.”
“Everton have been short of quality attackers, a problem that has persisted over the past few seasons. In Nuamah, they’d gain a player with enormous potential. For me, it would be a win-win for everyone involved if this transfer materializes,” the former Black Stars defender concluded.
Meanwhile, Nuamah’s decision to stay in France last summer has not entirely gone as planned. He has managed just one goal and one assist in 20 appearances across all competitions. He is yet to register a goal involvement in Ligue 1 this season, despite featuring in 13 matches.
Nuamah’s European journey began in January 2022 when he joined Danish side Nordsjaelland. During his time there, he scored 20 goals in 49 games, which earned him a loan move to Lyon for most of the 2023/24 campaign. Lyon later made the transfer permanent, with his contract running until 2028.
