Ugandan international and left-back Mustafa Kizza has confirmed plans to return to the Uganda Premier League as he aims to rediscover his form, The Nerve Africa has learned in an exclusive interview.
Short Stints and Setbacks Abroad
The 25-year-old defender, once a rising star in Ugandan football, has struggled to find stability in recent seasonsβfailing to remain at a single club for more than a year. Kizza has either clashed with club administrators or lacked consistent game time. His most recent stint was a brief spell at Egyptian Premier League side Telecom FC, which ended in under six months.
Kizza had signed a two-year deal with Telecom FC in October 2024 after departing seven-time Uganda Premier League champions, Express FC. However, he exited the Egyptian outfit in February 2025 due to the clubβs failure to meet agreed-upon financial obligations.
Homecoming Plans: Kizza Eyes Revival in Uganda
In an exclusive conversation with The Nerve Africa, Kizza revealed that his immediate plan is to rejoin the Ugandan domestic league for at least a season or two, before exploring opportunities abroad.
βRight now, my focus is to return home, play regularly, and reset myself to the standards I set,β Kizza said.
βBy the end of next month, Iβll have found a new home, but it will be in the Uganda Premier League for sure. The plan is to get as much game time as possible, build my fitness to the desired levels, and keep impressing. Then, after a year or two, Iβll return to playing football abroad again.β
βI know what I can do. I believe in myself and in the goals Iβve set. Iβm yet to reach my prime, so Iβll be back to the top level. I just need consistent minutes, and the rest will fall into placeβitβs just a matter of time.β
