Following a failed move to Romanian side FC Hermannstadt, free agent and experienced Ugandan international Farouk Miya is closing in on a deal with German Second Division outfit Eintracht Braunschweig, sources at The Nerve Africa have exclusively learned.
Initially, the 26-year-old was on the verge of joining Hermannstadt in June, but the deal fell through when he failed to promptly secure the crucial International Transfer Certificate from world football’s governing body, FIFA.
However, an opportunity to join Braunschweig has now arisen after the club reached an agreement with Miya’s representatives, Independent Affiliates FZ (LLC). A source close to the agency indicated that the player is expected to sign a two-year contract early next week.
“Miya will be back in contention very soon after an agreement was reached with Eintracht Braunschweig on Tuesday. It’ll be a two-year deal. He should be on the plane before the weekend to sign his contract next week. We’re hopeful that nothing will disrupt this move like what happened with Hermannstadt. It’s a fantastic opportunity for him to showcase his ability once again,” the source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
The attacking midfielder, who can also play as a forward, has been without a club since May last year. He had signed for Ukrainian side FC Lviv, but political instability in the country led to the termination of his contract.
Prior to that, he was on loan from Turkish team Caykur Rizespor. At Rizespor, where he spent the entire 2022/23 season, Miya made 22 appearances across the Turkish League One and the domestic cup, scoring four goals and providing three assists.
Miya, whose Transfermarkt valuation has dropped to €150,000, has also previously played for Turkish top-flight side Konyaspor for two seasons. Additionally, he has had stints at Croatia’s HNK Gorica, Azerbaijan’s Sabail FK, and Belgian giants Standard Liege and Royal Mouscron (on loan), as well as Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC.
For the Uganda National Senior Team, the Cranes, Miya has amassed 66 competitive appearances, with a solid record of 23 goals and eight assists.
