Atletico Lusaka and Spanish La Liga side Leganes have reached an advanced stage in negotiating a deal for Zambian 18-year-old winger Gift Siame, but the Spanish club has yet to officially announce the deal.
Last month, Siame traveled to Europe for trials with Cagliari; however, a deal was not reached with the Serie A side. He was later scouted by Leganes, who invited him for further trials. Impressed by his performance, the club is now close to finalizing an agreement to sign the player.
Leganes is expected to sign Siame on a five-year contract, with plans for him to play for their youth team to adapt to the club’s philosophy.
“The deal is almost done; there are just a few formalities remaining, and he will be a Leganes player. I can confirm,” The Nerve Africa source close to the deal revealed.
Siame could become the second Zambian, after striker Francisco Mwepu, to play in the Spanish La Liga.
Mwepu made history in May 2023 as the first player from Zambia to play in the Spanish top flight with Cádiz CF. The former Sturm Graz player achieved the feat when he played the final 20 minutes against Villarreal.
