Seven months into his spell at Polish outfit Rakow Czestochowa, versatile Kenyan defender-cum-midfielder Eric Otieno Ouma is set to be handed a fresh contract, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
Otieno signed with the side in the January 2024 transfer window from Swedish top-flight team AIK Solna on a two-year deal and has since impressed, with new manager Marek Papszun recommending a renewed contract.
A member of Otieno’s family, who also serves at his agency 11MANGMT, revealed that the 27-year-old will receive an improved contract from Rakow Czestochowa, aiming to fend off interest from potential suitors across Europe.
βI can confirm that talks are underway for a longer and improved contract for Eric. He’s not been there for long, but he has had a notable impact and has attracted interest from teams in bigger football projects. Papszun (Marek) wants him at the club. They want to add three more years to his contract,β the source said in a phone interview.
Since joining Rakow in January, Otieno, whose TransferMarket valuation is estimated at β¬1.2 million (166 million Kenyan Shilling), has played 12 times, including 11 appearances in the Ekstraklasa (Polish Premier League) and one in the Polish Cup.
Before joining Rakow, he spent four seasons at AIK Solna, where he made over 100 appearances. He also previously played for Kenya’s Kisumu Allstars, Gor Mahia, Vaselunds IF (Sweden), and Georgian side Kolkheti Poti.
It is worth noting that Otieno is one of the most senior players on the Kenyan National team, the Harambee Stars, having earned 40 competitive caps since making his debut eight years ago in 2016.
