Following months of searching for a new club, Kenyan international Johnstone Omurwa may soon join Israel Premier League side Hapoel Haifa FC, sources close to The Nerve Africa have exclusively learned.
Omurwa is currently a free agent, having been released by Portuguese side Estrela da Amadora FC at the end of the 2023/24 season, following the expiry of his contract. He spent two uneventful campaigns at the JosΓ© Gomes Stadium.
However, his representatives, Futaro Stars Agent Group (FSAG), have been actively searching for his next destination and have reportedly focused on Hapoel Haifa. A source close to the player revealed that the club and the player have reached a verbal agreement, with an offer of a three-year contract, plus an option for an additional year.
βThe puzzle is almost complete, as he (Omurwa) is set to move to Israel to join Hapoel Haifa. The deal offers more stability and certainty compared to his previous stint at Estrela. A three-year contract with an option for an additional year has been agreed upon. He is likely to sign before the international break, but we will wait and see,β the source told The Nerve Africa.
During his time at Estrela, Omurwa, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at β¬500,000, played 25 matches across two seasons in all competitions. Last season, he appeared 16 times, with 15 appearances in the Primeira Liga and one in the TaΓ§a de Portugal.
Previously, he played for Muhoroni Youth FC and Mathare United FC in Kenya’s second division and top flight, respectively. He also had a stint with Wazito FC.
On the international stage, Omurwa, who made his debut with Kenya’s national senior team, the Harambee Stars, in 2019, has accumulated 14 competitive appearances. He is also part of the squad set to face Zimbabwe and Cameroon in the September Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
