Kenyan defender Nabilai Kibunguchy is inching closer to a move to Swedish top-flight outfit IF Elfsborg from Orlando City II, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
Kibunguchy’s representatives, Prosport Management, feel the player is ready to make a career leap, having spent the last three years in the lowly ranked MLS Next Pro league in the United States. Initially, he played for Minnesota United II before joining Orlando City II.
“We hope a move to Elfsborg will come to life. It is the right time for Kibu to eventually make the next step. We hope to reach an agreement with Orlando,” a member of Prosport Management disclosed to The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
The US-born player, whose current contract at Orlando expires in December, has struggled to break into the senior team at the Florida-based club. This season, he has played nine of the 12 games in the MLS Next Pro for his team.
A move to Elfsborg could guarantee regular playing time with the senior team, which would be beneficial to him and also boost his chances of selection for the Kenyan national team, the Harambee Stars.
Kibunguchy made his Harambee Stars debut when he came on as a late substitute for Johnstone Omurwa during Kenyaβs 5-0 thrashing of Seychelles in November last year. He has been dropped for the upcoming World Cup qualification matches against Burundi and Ivory Coast
