After just 10 months at the club, Ugandan offensive star Mahadi Kayondo Mahrez has inked a new contract with Romanian second-tier outfit CSM Slatina, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
The versatile player initially signed a one-year deal in January but has extended his stay for an additional two seasons, with his new contract keeping him at the club until June 2026. The extension follows his impressive performances, which caught the attention of head coach Daniel Oprescu, who praised Kayondo’s adaptability and flexibility to play various roles across the midfield and attack.
A source from his agency, Sepuya Sports Inc., confirmed the development, also noting that Kayondo has received a significant pay rise at CSM Slatina. The source added that the new deal was timely, helping to fend off interest from clubs that were monitoring his contract situation.
“We’re pleased that the new contract for Mahad (Kayondo) is signed and sealed. The club is extremely happy with his performances, and we wanted to avoid any complications at the end of the season, so we signed the extension. He’ll be with the club for two more years, and the pay rise is, of course, a bonus,” the source told The Nerve Africa in an exclusive interview.
This season, Kayondo has featured 10 times for CSM Slatina, and he has made 16 appearances in total since joining. He moved to the club from CSA Steaua Bucuresti, where he had played seven league games. The player, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €25,000, has also had stints with CSM Deva and ASC Otelul Galati.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old has made just two appearances for the Uganda national senior team, the Cranes. He has also represented his country at the U20 and U23 levels in the All-Africa Games.
