Following his debut for FC Zurich’s first team on Wednesday, The Nerve Africa understands that Zambian forward Joseph Sabobo Banda will stay at the club and be promoted to the main team.
Banda made his senior debut for FC Zurich, coming on as a second-half substitute as his team rallied from a goal down to beat Servette 2-1 in the Swiss Super League.
The 18-year-old joined Zurich earlier this year on a five-year contract from Zambian second-tier club Atletico Lusaka. Banda has been playing for Zurich II in the third-tier Challenge League, where he has scored three goals in 13 games.
It is understood Zurich interim coach Ricardo Moniz likes him and wants to see more of the Zambian teenager.
βThere were plans to loan him next season, but after his debut, it was decided that he would remain in the first team because he impressed,β a source close to the player told The Nerve Africa.
βHe is determined to break into the first team and has been training with them for the past week. The technical bench is happy with his work ethic and he is most likely going to get more minutes.β
In an interview with The Nerve Africa in January, Banda said his dream club is Real Madrid and he hopes to make it to Europe.Β
βI hope my move to Europe marks the beginning of my journey to Madrid. I dream of one day playing for Real Madrid, and I am committed to working hard to make that dream a reality.β
