Ugandan international Carl James Mujaguzi in an exclusive interview with The Nerve Africa has made his ambitions clear following his move to League of Ireland First Division side Kerry FC, declaring that his ultimate goal is to help the club win the title this season.
The Uganda-born, Swedish-raised midfielder joins from Swedish side BK Olympic on a two-year contract, adding strength to manager Conor McCarthy’s midfield for the new campaign. Kerry FC has already made a strong start, securing a 2-0 home victory over Finn Harps last Friday.
With Mujaguzi set to make his debut this Friday in an away clash against Cobh Ramblers, he spoke exclusively to The Nerve Africa about his aspirations and the responsibility of wearing the Kerry FC shirt.
“For me, it’s a massive honor to sign for Kerry FC and to be part of a club with such a passionate fan base—not just for now but for the years ahead, and most importantly, a club with a big vision,” Mujaguzi said.
“I already feel the pressure of wearing this jersey, and it’s an absolute privilege. The target is to win the title, and we don’t care what happened in the past. I’m here to fight and help this team win the championship—for history and for the fans.”
“I am fully committed to giving my best on the pitch to contribute to the team’s success both now and in the future. I look forward to this exciting journey and to creating unforgettable moments. I want to fight and give everything for my team’s badge every time I step onto the pitch,” he added.
The 24-year-old leaves BK Olympic, which he joined from Athlone Town. He made 32 appearances for BK Olympic and 23 for Athlone, scoring one goal for the latter and none for the former. He also played for IFK Malmö in the Swedish Division One in 2022 on loan.
Meanwhile, on the international stage, Mujaguzi has been capped once by Uganda’s senior national team, The Cranes. He will be hoping to earn a place in Uganda’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, set to take place in December this year in Morocco.
