The agent of Östers IF’s new signing, Youssoupha Sanyang, has boldly claimed that the 19-year-old winger has the potential to reach the English Premier League, following the path of Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh.
Earlier the Swedish Allsvenskan club Östers IF confirmed the signing of the Gambian talent.
In an exclusive interview with The Nerve Africa, Modou Lamin Beyai, a Europe-based Gambian agent representing Sanyang, expressed his confidence in the player’s ability to excel in Sweden and eventually secure a move to one of Europe’s top leagues.
“I see him taking a big step, if all goes well, with a move to clubs in Belgium, Italy, France, or even England,” Beyai said. “He has the talent, but it’s up to him to utilize it. If he can show his quality in the Swedish league, I hope he can follow in Yankuba Minteh’s footsteps and move from a Scandinavian club directly to the English Premier League.”
Sanyang’s journey began with a short-term loan to SK Västerås in August 2024, where he made six appearances, including two starts, despite the club’s relegation. Västerås expressed interest in signing him permanently by activating the buy option clause, but Sanyang and his agent chose to explore other opportunities in Sweden’s top flight.
“Västerås had the option to keep him, and Yusupha wanted to stay, but when the opportunity to join Östers IF came up, we felt it was the right decision to take it and continue playing at the highest level of Swedish football,” Beyai explained.
Now with Östers IF, Sanyang has the chance to shine in the Allsvenskan. Beyai is confident that a strong season will put the Gambian winger on the radar of Europe’s elite clubs, paving the way for a future in leagues like the Premier League.
