Portuguese second-tier outfit Clube Desportivo Feirense have reignited their hunt for versatile Ugandan attacker Isma Mugulusi, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
Initially, Mugulusi was on the verge of joining Feirense last year in August, but the deal fell through after he failed to secure a work permit on time. However, the Portuguese club is now back for his signature and intends to make it a swift acquisition.
The 20-year-old is currently a free agent after mutually terminating his contract with his most recent club, FK Riteriai of Lithuania, making negotiations with Feirense easier, as the two parties only need to agree on personal terms.
A top source at Mugulusi’s Sepuya Inc Agency disclosed significant talks on Thursday, with the club tabling a four-year contract. βLast year, he (Mugulusi) fell short of making his desired move to Feirense. But we stayed patient, and they’re back with new terms. We are optimistic and hopeful a deal will happen. He’s a top player, no doubt about that.β
Should the deal materialize, Mugulusi, who can operate as an attacking midfielder, winger, and forward, will become the third Ugandan in history to feature for Feirense. Previously, the club has harbored compatriots Alex Kakuba and William Kizito Luwaga.
Besides Riteriai, the player has, in the past, featured for Makedonikos Neapolis in the Greek second division, Uganda Premier League champions SC Villa, as well as his boyhood club, Busoga United.
Despite being only 20 years old, Mugulusi, who made his debut for the Uganda National Senior team in 2021, has already accumulated seven competitive international caps. He has yet to score a goal but has managed two assists. He has also previously featured at various national youth levels, including the U15, U17, and U20 teams.
