Spanish-based, Gambian-born Ebrima Tunkara, who plays for FC Barcelona’s renowned academy, La Masia, has been delivering impressive performances this season, attracting significant attention.
The 14-year-old was born in a humble village in the far eastern part of the small West African nation and moved to Spain with his family at the age of seven.
As part of a family that traveled in search of better opportunities, the teenage sensation, Ebrima, has chosen football as his trade to help uplift the plight of his homeland and has since had the opportunity to join one of the world’s most prestigious academies.
The youngster has been outstanding this season for Barca’s Juvenile B team, scoring 3 goals in his last 2 matches for them.
However, with the club’s leadership now recognizing him as one of their top prospects for the academy, Ebrima’s focus is on playing professional football and representing his birth country in the future.
“They want to keep helping me grow and become the best player I can be in the future,” Tunkara said to The Nerve Africa. “I want to continue on this path and become a professional with one of the greatest clubs in the world.”
“If I could sign a professional contract with Barcelona, then the next step would be to play for my country, The Gambia, which is one of my dreams,” added the player.
The Gambian, whose father works in Spain to make ends meet, has a promising future ahead of him to change his family’s situation. However, this could largely begin if he maintains his impressive form and signs a professional contract soon after turning 18, in accordance with FIFA regulations.
