Zambian international winger Lameck Banda has confirmed to The Nerve Africa that he will stay at Lecce, despite reports suggesting he has drawn interest from elite European teams.
Several media outlets in Zambia said that Banda, who is valued at β¬4 million according to Transfermarkt, had been approached for a move away from Lecce in January. The player disputes the rumours, saying they are false.Β
βI am staying at Lecce. I just came here last year. Those rumours are false,β the 22-year-old winger told The Nerve Africa.Β
Banda joined Lecce in August 2022 from Israeliβs Maccabi and signed a four-year deal. He became the first Zambian to play and score in the Italian Serie A after netting two goals in 36 appearances for Lecce.Β
He has now made seven appearances this season, making six starts and dishing up three assists.
Before Zambia plays Congo Brazzaville and Niger in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, Banda is anticipated to report to the Zambian national team camp.
On November 17, 2023, Zambia will play home to Congo before heading to Niger four days later as their attempt to qualify for their first World Cup begins.
