Ugandan striker Sadat Happy Ada Anaku has exited newly promoted Scottish Premier League outfit Dundee United following the expiry of his contract, The Nerve Africa can confirm.
Despite initial talks for a renewal, Anaku was included among the 11 players released by the club after securing promotion to the top flight. The 23-year-old is currently back in Uganda with hopes of securing his next club.
Anaku joined Dundee from KCCA FC in the Uganda Premier League in August 2022 on a two-year contract. However, his spell has been hampered by a disastrous Achilles injury that has kept him on the sidelines for over a year.
Before his injury setbacks, Anaku had played 14 games during his debut season with Dundee United’s senior team, including two starts. He failed to score a goal and managed only one assist in the process.
Meanwhile, reports of a possible return to his boyhood club KCCA FC have intensified. He was pictured at the club’s grounds, the MTN Omondi Stadium, Lugogo, on Thursday.
It is believed that the 13-time Uganda Premier League champions are looking to secure his services as a replacement for the sought-after Muhammad Shaban, whose contract expired at the end of the season.
At the national senior team level, Anaku has yet to make a competitive appearance despite receiving several call-ups before the injury suffered last year. However, he has featured for Uganda at the U-17 and U-20 youth levels previously.
