Nigerian teenage striker Favour Bamidele has attracted interest from Portuguese giants Benfica after travelling to Europe for trials, with the 17-year-old currently being assessed by Swedish club Kalmar FF.
Bamidele, who plays for Inspire Football Academy in Nigeria, is spending two weeks at Kalmar. He began with the club’s P19 side before joining the first team for the second week of his trial.
Kalmar sporting director described the forward as an “exciting striker” as the club assesses his potential.
However, Kalmar are not the only European club to have shown interest. A source at Inspire Football Academy told Footy-Africa that Bamidele previously travelled to Portugal for a trial with Benfica.
The teenager is also understood to be attracting attention from a Belgian club, although no formal agreement has been reached with any of the interested sides.
Bamidele’s spell in Sweden will give him an opportunity to experience both academy and senior football as he looks to take the next step from Nigerian youth football into Europe.
His future is expected to become clearer after completing the assessment at Kalmar.
