The Ugandan international Shafiq Kagimu has committed his future to FK Rabotnicki, signing a two-year contract extension that will keep him at the North Macedonian top-flight club until the end of the 2026-2027 season.
However, the Ugandan international will spend the remainder of the 2024-2025 campaign on loan at FC Brera Strumica to gain more playing time and league experience.
In an exclusive interview with The Nerve Africa, Kagimu explained the reasoning behind his decision, emphasizing his desire to continue developing before returning to Rabotnicki next season.
“I extended my contract yesterday with a club that has been very good to me since I joined last year. I’m now set to officially join Brera Strumica, another big team, but on loan. I’ve been training with them over the last couple of days, and I’ll sign the loan papers later today (Saturday). Everything is set,” Kagimu told The Nerve Africa.
“I just want to play as much football as possible and return to Rabotnicki a much better player.”
Kagimu, who joined Rabotnicki in the 2023-2024 season, played 21 of their 33 league games last campaign, helping them secure an eighth-place finish with 42 points. This season, he has featured in 12 games, registering one assist.
The midfielder, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at €150,000, moved to Rabotnicki from Kenyan Premier League champions Gor Mahia, where he spent less than a year. However, he first made his name as captain of StarTimes Uganda Premier League side URA FC, where he played for four seasons, making 80 league appearances and scoring 17 goals.
At the international level, Kagimu made his senior debut for the Uganda Cranes in 2019 and has since earned nine caps, scoring once and providing one assist.
His immediate focus now shifts to making an impact at Brera Strumica before returning to Rabotnicki, where he hopes to establish himself as a key player for the club’s long-term ambitions.
