Highly rated Ugandan left-back Marvin Mukiibi could soon make a big move from Uganda Premier League side Wakiso Giants FC to Dutch Eredivisie side RKC Waalwijk, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
This development follows contact made by the Dutch club with the playerβs representatives at Prosper Sports Agency on Friday. Waalwijk has reportedly been monitoring the 19-year-old since last yearβs All-Africa Games in Ghana, utilizing scouts based in Kenya.
Mukiibi currently has one-and-a-half years remaining on his contract with Wakiso Giants. The Ugandan club is keen on a sale, expecting a significant profit for one of the Uganda Premier Leagueβs brightest young talents.
A source at Prosper Sports Agency confirmed an initial meeting with Waalwijk officials. The club is said to be planning a move for Mukiibi in the January transfer window, offering a long-term five-year contract. However, should an agreement be reached, the player is expected to remain at Wakiso Giants for the rest of the season before joining Waalwijk in June.
βThere was a meeting yesterday with two officials from Waalwijk regarding a possible move for Marvin (Mukiibi). The impression was positive from both parties after the initial talks, but discussions are expected to continue into next week. Wakiso Giants are willing to sell the player at the right price, so itβs not expected to be too complicated,β the source exclusively told The Nerve Africa.
Mukiibi emerged from East African Schools record champions St. Maryβs School, Kitende, before joining Wakiso Giants, where he has played for two-and-a-half seasons. This season, he has made eight league appearances, providing three assists. Since the start of the 2022/23 campaign, he has featured in 33 matches, scoring five goals and registering 11 assists.
At the international level, Mukiibi has represented Uganda at the U17, U20, and U23 levels. He was also part of the U20 team, the Hippos, that clinched silver at the All-Africa Games in Accra, Ghana, last year.
