The Blues have reportedly expressed interest in acquiring the services of young Nigerian midfielder Christantus Uche, who has recently made a strong impression in Spainβs La Liga while playing for Getafe, as per Relevo.Β
The Premier League side has already made inquiries about the possibility of signing the 21-year-old. Chelsea sees Uche as a player who has the potential to adapt to the rigors of English football.
Chelsea, under the ownership of the BlueCo consortium, has developed a strategy of signing young, promising talents, a move consistent with their previous acquisitions of rising stars of Nigerian descent, such as Carney Chukwuemeka, Lesley Ugochukwu, and England international Noni Madueke.
However, Uche is reportedly content with his current situation at Getafe and is not actively seeking a move. This could pose a challenge for Chelsea, should they pursue their interest in the midfielder.
Uche joined Getafe last summer from Spanish third-division side AD Ceuta. Despite having no prior experience in top-tier European football, he has made a remarkable start to his La Liga career. His debut came against Athletic Bilbao, where he scored a crucial header in the 64th minute to secure a draw, marking the beginning of a standout season.
Since then, Uche has been a regular starter for Getafe, appearing in every league match and earning significant playing time. Only four of his teammates have accumulated more minutes on the field, highlighting the trust his manager has placed in him.
As Chelsea continues to monitor Ucheβs progress, it remains to be seen whether they will make a concrete move for the midfielder in the near future.
