Kenyan defender Zak Vyner could leave English Championship side Bristol City FC to join Germany topflight outfit Werder Bremen in the January transfer window, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
Β
Vyner has been a subject of media attention, that he could head to Werder Bremen in the winter transfer window at a reported β¬4 million. The rumors have now been further fuelled by his camp, with his agency Wasserman confirming contact from Bremen.
Β
A source at Wasserman has indicated that Vyner will join Bremen should the German Bundesliga side pay Bristol’s valuation of the 27-year-old. The source also added that a move to a European top-five league is one the player and the camp are not ready to let slip. It should be noted that Vyner still has a one-and-a-half year contract with Bristol.
Β
βWe have been in contact with Bremen over the last days, and discussions have taken place. It’s something we cannot ignore, as Zak’s (Vyner) dream is to play in a top-five league. We just hope they reach a clear ground with Bristol City and it’ll be done for January,β the source spoke to The Nerve Africa in a phone interview.
Β
Vyner, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at β¬2.8 million, has this season played eight matches at Bristol across the English Championship and the EFL Cup. He featured 41 times in the 2023/24 season, while he made 51 appearances in the 2022/23 campaign.
Β
Meanwhile, he remains one of the longest serving players in the current Bristol City squad, having joined in 2016 as a teenager from Accrington Stanley. Along the spell, he has had loan spells at Rotherham United and Plymouth Argyle.
Β
While he announced that he would play for the Kenyan National Senior team at the international stage, earlier this year, Vyner is yet to make a competitive appearance. He had been set to receive his maiden call-up for the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualification doubleheader against Cameroon, but is out with an injury setback.
