After months without a club, Nigerian attacker Akinkunmi Amoo is on the verge of completing a move to Croatian Second Division outfit NK Dugopolje FC, The Nerve Africa sources have exclusively learned.
Amoo has been without a club since his exit from Cypriot Premier League giants Omonia Nicosia in March of this year. Omonia terminated his contract after just six months, having joined in September 2023 in what was intended to be a three-year stint.
His representatives, CIA Sports Group, have been actively searching for his next destination. Despite his undeniable potential, concerns over his injury history have been the main obstacle in securing a new club.
However, Dugopolje has signed him to a two-year contract. The agreement was finalized between the club and CIA Sports Group on Saturday. A source close to the deal disclosed that Amoo will join the club upon completing his medical tests scheduled for Monday.
βAmoo is still a young lad with tremendous potential, eager to showcase his abilities to the world. He has been unfortunate with injuries in the past, but at Dugopolje, he gets a chance for redemption. He will sign on Monday after his medical, hopefully,β the source told The Nerve Africa in an interview.
During his six-month stint at Omonia, the 22-year-old played six games across the league and the Cyprus Cup. Previously, while at Danish powerhouse FC Copenhagen, he appeared in four senior team matches over two seasons. He has also played for Swedish side Hammarby IF.
Meanwhile, Amoo, whose Transfermarkt valuation is estimated at β¬400,000, has yet to make a senior international appearance for Nigeria. However, he was part of the Nigeria U17 team that reached the Round of 16 at the 2019 U17 World Cup in Brazil, before being eliminated by the Netherlands.
