Ugandan international defender Denis Iguma is close to signing a deal with Lithuanian second division side Sveikata Kybartai FC, The Nerve Africa has exclusively learned.
Iguma, who missed the entire 2023/24 season due to injury, has been a free agent following his departure from 13-time Uganda Premier League champions KCCA FC. His recovery has coincided with interest from Sveikata, who have offered him a two-year contract.
A source close to the 30-year-old’s family disclosed that negotiations took place in the past week and that the player will fly to Lithuania for medical tests in the coming days. He will sign the contract if he secures a work permit.
βHe (Iguma) has held talks with Sveikata in the last few days, and everything is set to be completed. His signing bonus was the main obstacle, but that was resolved by Saturday. He should travel between Monday and Wednesday for the tests, and heβll stay there for two years,β the source told The Nerve Africa.
Iguma joins Sveikata Kybartai with significant experience, having previously played for KCCA and SC Victoria University FC in the Uganda Premier League. He also had spells in Lebanon with Al-Nabi Shayth, Al-Ahed SC, and Bekaa Club.
At the international level, Iguma, who can play as a defensive midfielder, central defender, and right-back, is one of the most capped active Ugandan players. Having debuted for the Cranes in 2012, he has since made 63 competitive appearances.
