The midfielder has engaged in discussions with his Danish club Horsens about a potential contract extension, sources close to the player told The Nerve Africa.

Having spent his entire senior career in Denmark, Opondo is eager to extend his stay in the country by another two years. The 26-year-old’s current contract is set to expire on June 30, but negotiations for a renewal are already in progress, according to The Nerve Africa’s insider close to the club.

This season, Opondo has been a key player for Horsens, appearing in 22 of the team’s 26 First Division matches. With the team currently in eighth place on the 12-team table, they are confident of avoiding relegation.

In the previous season, he made 32 league appearances, highlighting his critical role in the team. Since joining Horsens in the 2021/2022 season, Opondo has participated in 63 league matches. Valued at €325,000, he previously played for Odense and Vendsyssel in the Superliga, Denmark’s top-tier league.

Since the 2016/2017 season, Opondo has also competed in 11 matches of the Landspokal Cup, Denmark’s domestic FA Cup. Despite his club success, the midfielder has played only three official international matches for Uganda since 2018, including a recent friendly against Comoros last month, which ended in a 4-0 defeat.
