Besiktas defender Omar Colley has turned down an offer from Serie A club Salernitana during the winter transfer window, citing his reluctance to return to Italy despite a previously successful stint in the country.
The Gambian international, who spent five years with UC Sampdoria, accumulating 136 appearances and netting 3 goals, has established himself as one of Serie A’s standout defenders. However, after departing for Besiktas in February 2023, Colley has opted against a return to Italy despite Salernitana’s interest.
Colley’s decision, revealed through sources at The Nerve Africa, highlights his current disinterest in revisiting Serie A, stating:
“It is right. I just did not want to go back to Italy but we will see what the future holds.”
This choice is poised to impact Colley’s position within the Besiktas squad significantly. The 31-year-old has been a stalwart for the Turkish giants, leading the defensive charts with the most league clean sheets (5) and contributing five goals already this season.
According to Transfermarkt the playerβs current market value estimates at β¬3,7 million while his salary at the Turkish club is reported to be around β¬1,65 million.Β
While Salernitana’s offer may have tempted some, Colley’s commitment to Besiktas and his stance on his future path suggest a continued focus on his current endeavors in Turkey.
