Ahead of the 2020 Olympics, Japan’s Sports Council has released a new design for the country’s national stadium. The design, christened “Design A” was submitted by a consortium led by Taisei Corp, set to be the centerpiece of the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo.’
Design A which is expected to accommodate 80,000 people, consists of wood and steel and fashioned after traditional Japanese temples. The stadium will be as high as 164 feet with a main sports field sunken under the ground. The stadium is estimated to cost $1.26 billion
Design A is expected to be completed by November 30, 2019, 266 days before the Olympics opening ceremony.
